Subject: Vedic universities will bring enlightenment to every student

(March 22, 2004) His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi unveiled his plan to bring enlightenment to every student and create balance in society by establishing Vedic universities, colleges, and schools in every nation. Maharishi said that in contrast to today’s fragmented approach to education, which damages the holistic potential of the student, his Vedic universities will provide the total knowledge of Natural Law—the light of God—to enable everyone to achieve their desires without stress or strain.

"Education today is unsatisfactory because it trains a student in a particular profession—engineer, doctor, administrator, farmer—but fails to give him the knowledge to gain fulfilment," Maharishi said. "Unless a man has total knowledge and the ability to fulfil his desires, he will never be at peace."

Maharishi’s special message to government and education leaders came during his recent global news conference, which was broadcast live via satellite and Internet webcast on March 17 from the Capital of the Global Country of World Peace in Meru, Holland. Maharishi’s next news conferences will be held on March 24 and 25.

Maharishi acknowledged that the modern physical sciences—physics, chemistry, biology, etc.—have successfully glimpsed total Natural Law—the Unified Field—which administers the universe with perfect order. But only Vedic science, Maharishi said, provides the total knowledge of this field and the practical procedures to apply it to benefit the individual and society.

"In Vedic science, the Unified Field is experienced as Atma—or the Self—of everyone," Maharishi said. "Total knowledge of the Unified Field is like a floodlight compared to the candlelight of fragmented knowledge. When a man’s awareness is awake in total knowledge, everything that is necessary to fulfil any desire will spontaneously come to his mind—compared to a drowsy man who thinks in an irrational manner and is unable to achieve anything."

Maharishi emphasised that total knowledge does not come from reading books, but rather comes when an individual’s awareness transcends all boundaries and becomes one with the self-referral field of consciousness—Atma—within. "It is not a matter of gaining intellectual understanding about total Natural Law; rather, it is a matter of being total Natural Law—it is a matter of knowing by being," Maharishi said.

Maharishi said his Vedic universities will provide students with Transcendental Meditation to give them the experience of total Natural Law within—and will provide them with the intellectual understanding of the experience as well. "Vedic universities will fully awaken Transcendental Consciousness within every student to promote mistake-free life," Maharishi said. "Then all thought, speech, and behaviour will be in accord with the evolutionary direction of Natural Law—in accord with the light of God."

Maharishi explained that the Vedic universities will open as soon as new buildings are constructed according to Vedic architecture in harmony with Natural Law. Such buildings, Maharishi said, will connect individual life with cosmic life to promote the health, happiness, and success of every student.

Maharishi concluded by saying that Vedic universities and groups of coherence-creating Yogic Flyers are now being established in every country to remedy the roughness and negativity in world consciousness. "Gradually, world consciousness will become more and more coherent," Maharishi said. "Then people will recognise that the Atma within themselves is the same as the Atma within everyone else. This will be a divine life in human society—where every child will be enlightened and the world family will swing in bliss and fulfilment. Through the blessings of the Vedic tradition of masters, it is possible for us to create Heaven on Earth—and that is what we are doing now."
