Maharishi Vedic City -- the world's first city to adopt Vedic administration to promote prevention-oriented, problem-free government

22 December 2003: Vedic City -- Iowa's newest city -- has officially changed its name to Maharishi Vedic City following approval by residents during a recent election and the legal filing of documents with the Iowa Secretary of State.

Maharishi Vedic City is named in honour of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of the worldwide Transcendental Meditation movement who is world renowned for bringing to light in a systematic manner the complete Vedic science of consciousness to prevent problems and improve the quality of life for every individual and the whole society.

Mayor Dr. Robert Wynne explained the unique features of his city. "In Maharishi Vedic City, everything is Vedic," Mayor Wynne said." 'Vedic' comes from the Sanskrit word 'Veda,' which means 'pertaining to knowledge' -- pertaining to the knowledge of total Natural Law, which administers the universe with perfect order. Maharishi's Vedic approach to administration provides the knowledge for every government to engage the total creative potential of Natural Law to promote prevention-oriented, problem-free, ideal administration."

Maharishi Vedic City has adopted Maharishi's Vedic Approach to Ideal Administration, which includes:

Vedic Architecture: "Every home and office building in Maharishi Vedic City is designed according to Vedic architecture to promote health, happiness, and good fortune," Mayor Wynne said. "For example, every building faces east, and has a silent centre space called a Brahmasthan and a golden roof ornament called a Kalash."

Vedic Health Care: "Maharishi Vedic City is probably the healthiest city in America," Mayor Wynne said. "Our residents make use of Vedic health care to prevent disease and promote health. And we are home to the College of Maharishi Vedic Medicine of Maharishi University of Management and the world-renowned Raj Health Centre, which provides the prevention-oriented Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health to guests from all over the world."

Vedic Agriculture: "We recognize the importance of healthy food for our citizens," Mayor Wynne said. "That is why we have banned the sale of all non-organic food from our city and have begun construction on the first of a planned 100 acres of greenhouses at Maharishi Vedic City Organic Farms which will grow healthy, nutritious organic produce for residents of our city and the whole Midwest."

Vedic Education: "We recognize that the solution to all problems is proper education -- education that develops the total brain potential and cosmic creative intelligence of every student," Mayor Wynne said. "That is why we are proud that our city and the surrounding area are home to world's flagship educational institutions based on Vedic Education -- Consciousness-Based Education -- including Maharishi University of Management, Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, Maharishi Open University, Maharishi Spiritual University, and Ideal Girls School. These institutions also offer courses in Consciousness-Based Education to schools, colleges, and universities throughout the world."

Vedic Administration: "Maharishi Vedic City is a model of prevention-oriented, problem-free administration for every city -- large or small -- in the world," Mayor Wynne said. "To achieve this, we have adopted as our constitution the Constitution of the Universe, which administers the infinite diversity of the universe with perfect order."

Vedic Economy: "The ideal currency of Maharishi Vedic City is the Raam -- the development currency of the Global Country of World Peace. The City is also planning to be the future home of Raam Bank," Mayor Wynne said.

Vedic Defence: "We founded Maharishi Vedic City to become a 'lighthouse of peace' for America and the world," Mayor Wynne said. "That is why our city is working to quickly establish a permanent group of peace-creating experts whose daily practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying techniques will promote coherent national and world consciousness and thereby prevent any negativity from arising in America or in the family of nations."
