New Delhi: Sunil Kishore, Coca Cola's Group Human Resources adviser for Asia, swears by it, calling it one of the best discoveries of his life. For K K Aggrawal, Senior VP, Hero Honda, it's an excellent stress buster.

N Ramanathan, President, TQM and personnel development, SRF, tells you: "It makes you feel good about yourself and deal better with others."  Long popular in the west, Transcendental Meditation or TM, as they call it, is catching on in India. AirTel, American Express, Hero Honda, Hewlett Packard, BHEL, BPL, ESPN-Star Sports, Eveready, SRF and Wipro, Maruti, Siemens, Ranbaxy, Tisco, Godrej (the list is endless), have put their managers through the course. Many are even allowing employees to practice TM on company time. At Marico, all the personnel practice TM together as part of their workday.

And why not? It's to the advantage of both — the employees and the employers. As Aggrawal of Hero Honda which has had as many as nine TM courses for its employees, puts it, "Intellect and creativity are a company's greatest assets. When the mind is relaxed productivity peaks."

CEOs point out that stress and anger are corporate India's biggest enemies and TM is an excellent antidote for both.

Lane Wagger, international director, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Corporate Development Programme, explains how: "Anger is nothing but manifestation of stress, resulting from frustration to fulfil one's desire. TM creates an inner stability and provides an outlet for stress which makes anger vanish."
