(16 July 2003) His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi proclaimed that the deplorable state of today’s governments will soon be transformed into a perfect system of administration through the new Peace Government ─ recently inaugurated in the United States and soon to be established in every other nation. As a result, human life will be set in an evolutionary direction and the legacy of poverty, sickness, and suffering will soon be forgotten. Maharishi’s proclamation came during his global news conference on 9 July.

Then, four days later, during global Guru Purnima celebrations on 13 July, Maharishi pledged that the coming year will be a period of "momentous, glorious, fast-paced achievement" toward this goal. The Guru Purnima celebration ─ held every year on the full moon day in July ─ honours the Vedic tradition of masters of ancient India who are custodians of the supreme knowledge of total Natural Law.

Dr John Hagelin, world-renowned quantum physicist, inaugurated the US Peace Government on 4 July in Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa. Cabinet members of the new government include 400 of America’s top scientists, physicians, and educators. Peace Governments in every country will be affiliates of Maharishi’s Global Country of World Peace.

Maharishi delivered his proclamations from the Capital of the Global Country of World Peace in Meru, Holland, which were broadcast live via satellite, Internet webcast, and teleconference call. Maharishi’s next global news conferences will be on 16 and 17 July (see page 3 for details).

Maharishi said that the world’s bright future is based on the scientific knowledge of total Natural Law. "If Natural Law can administer the infinite diversity of the ever-expanding universe in an orderly manner, then why can’t our world of six billion people be governed with the same order? That may sound like a huge number of people, but it is an iota of the diversity of the universe, which is already being administered with perfect order," Maharishi said.

Maharishi then presented the Peace Government’s threefold approach to create a perfect system of administration in every nation and permanent peace in the world. These approaches enliven the Unified Field of Natural Law ─ Transcendental Consciousness ─ in individual and national life:

1. CONSCIOUSNESS-BASED EDUCATION: One classroom period a day in Transcendental Meditation in every school, college, and university to train students to develop their total brain physiology and cosmic creative potential so that they rise to higher states of consciousness and create coherent national consciousness.

2. PEACE-CREATING GROUPS: Groups of a few hundred to a few thousand peace-creating experts in every country (depending upon the national population) who will practise Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying to promote coherent national consciousness, as well as one group of 8,000 peace-creating experts on every continent, including a larger group of 40,000 experts in India.
3. VEDIC PERFORMANCES FOR PREVENTION: Collective Vedic performances in every country of the prevention-oriented Yagya and Graha Shanti programme to pacify the negative effects of citizens’ past wrong actions. Such performances will prevent the effects of past actions from coming back to the country as collective calamities and natural disasters. They will also promote a brighter future for the country and the world.

Maharishi explained that the Peace Government is a complementary government that will not conflict with existing governments. Instead, it will promote the success of every system of administration ─ democracy, monarchy, dictatorship, etc. "Humanly designed constitutions, with their human weaknesses and failures, can never cater to the diverse needs or administer the divergent trends of all the people in society," Maharishi said. "However, through the Peace Government programmes, every manmade government can rise to be on a par with the flawless administration of Natural Law ─ the Constitution of the Universe, the light of God ─ and thereby bring satisfaction to all the people."

Maharishi added that the primary beneficiary of the Peace Government will be the individuals who participate in the programmes and develop their cosmic potential; the side benefit will go to society. "When a lamp is lit, the light naturally spreads throughout the hall. When individuals are enlightened, harmony and balance naturally spread throughout the environment," Maharishi said.

Maharishi emphasised that every national administration must rise to perfection for the world to be at peace. "If even one little country remains stressed and mischievous, it will be like one little thorn in one little finger ─ it will throw off the balance of the whole body. That is why our effort is global ─ we want to create a strong intensity of peace in the whole family of nations. And fortunately, the Vedic literature provides all the prescriptions needed to promote peace, prevent negativity, and remedy all past wrongs.

"Now, with the blessings of the Vedic tradition of India and with the instant worldwide communication available today, it is easy to spread this knowledge very quickly," said Maharishi, who cited Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa, USA, as a model of city administration based on total Natural Law. "We just hope that we will have enough resources to employ a permanent group of 40,000 peace-creating experts in India. Then we can create a new civilisation of affluence and peace for every individual in every country of our dear world for all times to come."
