Maharishi’s message to educators

Provide all knowledge in one brain ─ not in one campus

Compartmentalisation of modern education
damages the dignity of human life

Rebuild schools in harmony with Natural Law
to promote the health and success of everyone

(4 June 2003) Modern education’s emphasis on compartmentalisation of knowledge ─ medicine, agriculture, engineering, art, etc. ─ promotes only partial functioning of the brain and damages the dignity of human life. Only consciousness-based education, which awakens within every student his own cosmic creative intelligence, can deliver the goal of education ─ all knowledge in one brain instead of all knowledge in one campus. Such education will develop the total brain physiology of every student and transform society as a whole.

This was the profound message delivered to educators by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi during his weekly global news conference held on Wednesday, 28 May, and broadcast live via satellite, Internet webcast, and teleconference call. Maharishi’s next news conferences will be held on 4 and 5 June.

Bankruptcy of intelligence guides education

Maharishi condemned the "bankruptcy of intelligence" that has guided education for centuries, and said that today’s education, which produces a doctor, a farmer, an engineer, or a professor without developing his total intelligence, undermines the purpose of education.

"When a student comes to a professor to learn, the professor should first say, ‘I will give the knowledge and experience of consciousness, so that you will succeed in whatever profession you pursue,’" Maharishi said.

Maharishi Universities of World Peace to graduate enlightened individuals

Maharishi said that his Universities of World Peace will teach economics, politics, engineering, science, and art. At the same time, students will develop higher states of consciousness and will graduate with total Natural Law lively in their awareness.

"The purpose of education is to develop intelligence," Maharishi said. "Why should a student remain satisfied with only partial intelligence when he can develop his total intelligence in Transcendental Consciousness through Transcendental Meditation? Why not grab the whole thing in one stroke?"

Three thousand Maharishi Universities of World Peace are now being established along with 3,000 Peace Palaces in the world’s largest 3,000 cities.

One classroom period a day for Transcendental Meditation

Maharishi also called on government leaders in every nation to add to the curriculum of their schools, colleges, and universities one classroom period a day for Transcendental Meditation. "This is the simple formula to develop the total brain physiology and cosmic creative intelligence of every student and to promote coherent national consciousness and a peaceful world," Maharishi said.

Promoting health, happiness, and success through Vedic architecture

In addition, Maharishi emphasised the importance of the design and construction of buildings, including universities and schools, for promoting an individual’s health, happiness, and success. Maharishi said that considerable negativity, sickness, and suffering are due to the improper design and orientation of buildings and communities. Maharishi called for widespread national reconstruction according to Vedic architecture in harmony with Natural Law "to reconnect the individual citizen with his cosmic potential and to prevent problems".

Vedic science offers a huge possibility for human life

"Vedic science offers a huge possibility for every individual to rise to higher states of consciousness and enjoy his own cosmic potential," Maharishi said. "This is all that is needed to create a society that everyone would love ─ a civilised society. It is time for every individual to wake up to total Natural Law ─ the light of God ─ which is always evolutionary for everyone ─ and to no longer remain in a beastly, bloody, field of ignorance."
