Maharishi opened his news conference last week by declaring that "there is nothing more urgent than establishing permanent world peace."

Here is a press release that summarises Maharishi's message during the press conference and gives details of this week's events:

Peace-creating groups to promote world harmony - and 3,000 Peace Palaces to promote health of the people

Maharishi's peace plan will resolve growing rift between governments and the governed

(25 February 2003) Permanent world peace can be established overnight by creating a powerful upsurge of harmony in today's divisive, conflict-ridden world consciousness and by promoting the health of all the people. Other approaches, such as negotiated treaties and military offensives, provide nothing more than a false hope - or worse, a path to destruction.

This was the message to heads of state delivered by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi during his 37th consecutive weekly global news conference, which was held last Wednesday and broadcast live to media on all continents via satellite, Internet webcast, and teleconference call. Maharishi's next global news conferences will be held on 26 and 27 February 2003(see below for details).

Maharishi opened the news conference by declaring that "there is nothing more urgent than establishing permanent world peace," and then outlining his scientifically proven, two-level approach to create peace on both the collective and individual levels. Maharishi's plan includes:

* COLLECTIVE LEVEL: Establishing a large group of 8,000 peace-creating experts on every continent, and a larger group of 40,000 experts in India to promote coherent world consciousness. Maharishi's plan will also establish 3,000 Peace Palaces in the world's largest 3,000 cities, which will be home to groups of 100 to 200 peace-creating experts who will create coherent national consciousness in every country. This includes Peace Palaces in the 51 largest cities in the UK.

* INDIVIDUAL LEVEL: Offering courses in Total Natural Law through the Peace Palaces to develop the full brain potential and promote the health of every individual. "Individual peace is based on health, and health is based on education," Maharishi said. "These courses will culture in every individual the ability to think and act spontaneously in an evolutionary direction - in the direction of better health. A healthy, peaceful individual is the unit of permanent world peace."

Maharishi also explained how his peace plan will resolve the growing rift in every nation between governments and those who are governed - of whom the majority are frustrated by government's inability to solve their problems. "Such failings are rooted in man-made constitutions, which are fraught with human limitations and human failings," Maharishi said. "Man is the creation of God. So man has to depend on God's Will - Natural Law - to be the guiding light of his life. Man does not know what is coming tomorrow or next week or next year, so how can such an incomplete human intellect design its own destiny? Whatever laws man makes to govern the population are a flop."

The solution, Maharishi said, is to bring to every man-made constitution the support of the Constitution of the Universe - which administers the infinite diversity of the universe with perfect order. "We are prepared to provide governments with the harmonious effect that is produced by these groups. Without our support, the future of governments is very fragile and shaky. But with our support - with the support of Higher Intelligence - governments will be strong and problem free, and life in the nation will always be satisfying for everyone."

Maharishi said that the complete record of the Constitution of the Universe is available in the Vedic literature of ancient India. In October 2000, Maharishi founded the Global Country of World Peace to provide every government with the Vedic knowledge and technologies to create, and administer, a world of enlightenment, where all people live in Unity consciousness - the highest state of human development.

The Global Country of World Peace is now inviting all heads of state to sign a contract to establish peace-creating groups in their countries to create a prevention-oriented, problem-free administration. "The knowledge is there," Maharishi said. "Let's make hay while the sun shines!"

Maharishi concluded the news conference by calling on the press to bring his words to the people of their countries. "We don't mind how long the world has been in the darkness of ignorance because we know how to bring the light of the Will of God - Total Natural Law. Our message to governments is simple and clear: 'The lamp is at the door. Open the door and live in light. Then everyone in your nation will enjoy a happy, healthy, prosperous life in invincibility and freedom.'"
